Backup Solutions
Positive E Solutions Inc. is able to provide a variety of backup solutions. It is important to implement a backup solution that fits your needs; which is based on the type of data, operating system, installed applications and data size. If you are looking for a new backup solution or you are not sure about your existing backup system, feel free to contact our technical sales department by phone 705-733-0171 or by email.
RAID Systems
Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), is a system which will, in the smallest configuration, mirror the data from one hard drive to another. This will ensure you won't lose your data in the event of a hard drive failure.
However, it does not cover data loss due to logical data coruption, file deletion or file changes by the user. This is especially important if you use a central inventory, accounting or POS system. An error might be visible at the time of creation but might effect the whole system later on. That is why Positive E Solutions Inc. recommends the use of an additional backup system which gives you the option to access to a backup that was created days ago. This can only be done with separate exchangable media or offsite backup solutions.
If you are on a tight budget and would like to have a Raid Solution with a one or two day redemption, you could use a RAID-1 System which creates a identical copy of the system/data drive and uses two other hard drives for exchange.

Local Media Backup
A device, like a tape recorder, that reads and/or writes data onto a tape. Tape drives have data capacities of anywhere from a few hundred kilobytes to several hundred gigabytes. A common tape size is 20 to 40 GB. We also offer a solution to backup onto a CD or DVD media. This option is a more cost effective than a tape backup however you are limited to the size of the CD or DVD media.
The Tape Backup Solution is one of the oldest ways to create a backup, it is also one of the most common backup solutions. Combined with a Raid system it will give you a decent backup procedure. The downside is that a standard tape backup requires manual interaction by changing the tapes and storing them in a different 'physical' location.
There are also virtual tape libraries (VTL) available, which emulate leading tape libraries to deliver the speed, reliability, and
availability benefits of disk-based backup while enabling the use of existing
tape backup software and procedures.
For more information on Virtual Tape Libraries or standard tape backup solutions, visit our Data Storage - Tape/Optical section.
Online/Offsite Backup
Offsite Backup works similarily to a tape backup - with one major difference. Rather than sending your data to a tape drive an Offsite Backup sends it securely over your Internet connection to another data storage safely off-site. This completely automatic event normally occurs at night while the business is closed and the computers are idle.
Our Offsite Backup Service stores your data encrypted in our data centre. Using the newest technology in RAID systems we can ensure your data will be safe once it is saved on one of our backup servers.
There are many reasons to use Offsite Backup, one of them is it simply combines all backup solutions in one:
- It uses RAID technology to ensure your data won't get lost due to hardware errors
- The backup files are not stored on site and are protected from robbery or natural disasters like flood or fire.
- You have a 30 day redemption, which is comparable to 30 daily tape backups.
Visit our Offisite Backup Section for more information.
Disaster Recovery
This is not a solution, however if you find yourself without a backup solution and have lost your data we may be able to retrieve your vital information. Please visit our Data Recovery Service Website or call us today at 705-733-0171.
At Positive E Solutions Inc. we recommend the use of two or more backup systems together. Contact us to get a full backup solution to secure your data today! |
